How to Calculate Working Hours?
If you are a freelancer, an hourly wage worker, or simply an employee required to fill out a daily timesheet, accurately calculating your working hours is essential to ensure you are paid correctly for your time.
The Calculation Formula
To calculate your net working hours manually, follow these steps:
- Convert your start time and end time into a 24-hour clock format (Military time).
- Subtract the Start Time from the End Time. This gives you your Gross Shift Duration.
- Subtract any unpaid breaks (such as a 60-minute lunch break) from the Gross Shift Duration to arrive at your Net Working Hours.
Decimal Hours for Payroll: Payroll systems often require hours in decimal format. For example, 8 hours and 30 minutes is represented as 8.5 hours. Our Working Hours Calculator provides both the standard Hours/Minutes format and the Decimal format to make your timesheet submission flawless.
