How to Use the Time Card Calculator?

Keeping an accurate record of your weekly hours is the only way to ensure your paycheck is correct. Instead of doing manual math with times like "8:45 AM" and "5:30 PM", our calculator automatically parses time durations and unpaid break intervals.

The Decimal Time System

In payroll processing, minutes are converted to decimals (Base 10) instead of Base 60. For example:

  • 15 minutes = 0.25 hours
  • 30 minutes = 0.50 hours
  • 45 minutes = 0.75 hours

Our Time Card Calculator performs this conversion for every day of the week, tallies the total decimal hours, separates any hours over your weekly overtime threshold (usually 40), and instantly calculates your gross pay!

Frequently Asked Questions

You log your start time, end time, and unpaid break duration for each day. Subtracting the break from the daily duration gives your net daily hours. Summing all days gives your weekly total.

In many regions, any time worked over 40 hours in a single week is considered Overtime. The calculator automatically splits your total hours into Regular (up to 40) and Overtime (anything above 40).

Payroll departments use decimal hours to easily multiply time by an hourly wage (e.g., 8 hours and 30 minutes is 8.5 hours). This prevents calculation errors when doing payroll.
