How to Calculate Overtime Pay?
If you work past your standard weekly hours (usually 40 hours in many countries), labor laws typically require that you are paid a premium rate for the extra hours worked. This is known as Overtime Pay.
The Overtime Formula
The standard way to calculate your overtime pay is very simple:
Overtime Pay = Regular Hourly Rate × Overtime Multiplier × Overtime Hours
- Time and a Half (1.5x): This is the most common overtime multiplier. If your regular wage is ₹200/hr, your overtime wage is ₹300/hr.
- Double Time (2.0x): Often paid for working on Sundays, designated rest days, or major public holidays.
